Canadian Federal Environment Minister Jim Prentice Resigns from Politics

November 4th, 2010

Earlier today, Environment Minister Jim Prentice announced his resignation from politics to pursue an opportunity at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. He will be resigning from his cabinet position immediately and will transition out of his role as an Member of Parliament by the end of the year. It has been confirmed that John Baird will temporarily take over the Environment portfolio.

Statement from ForestEthics: In light of Prentice's unexpected resignation, we look forward to working with the next appointed Federal Environment Minister and hope that he or she will be willing to enact stronger legislation to monitor and regulate the Tar Sands, and move forward with the opposition parties to support of a crude oil tanker ban for Northern BC.
