Media Roundup: ForestEthics' Greenbuild ad in the Toronto Star

Early last week at Greenbuild in Toronto, few at the world's largest building conference were talking about how the US Green Building Council's new proposals for LEED accreditation could dangerously lower standards and leave forests vulnerable to greenwash. Keynote speaker Thomas Friedman's warnings of too much happy talk without standards or sacrifice appeared to be right on the money.

Then our ad ran in the Toronto Star (at right). Suddenly, the important stuff was news once again:

Grist's "Will new LEED standards allow for clearcut timber?" hit the ground running with this first sentence: "The green building gurus must have spit their coffee across the table when they saw the full-page ad in the Toronto Star this week." And ForestEthics Executive Director Todd Paglia told the online enviro mag, "They're on the brink of taking the second E out of LEED."

And when those with opposing viewpoints argued their case to Environmental Leader, ForestEthics' Market Solutions Director Daniel Hall left a lengthy reply rebutting their main points.

GreenBiz noted this "latest volley in an ongoing dispute about the quality of wood certifications for green building projects", as did Environmental Leader in an earlier Greenbuild roundup.
