Think the Sustainably Forestry Initiative label is a sign of good environmental practices?
The truth:
The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) approves practices that cause landslides, wildlife extinction, clear-cutting, widespread poisoning of land and water, and Endangered Forest destruction – to name just a few of the environmental catastrophes that SFI has certified as 'sustainable'.
Think SFI is monitored by outside watchdogs? SFI was created in 1994 by the paper and timber industry to market products for the paper and timber industry. Any monitoring of SFI’s program is so relaxed that key issues one would expect to monitor (landslides, toxic contamination, forest destruction) are almost completely absent from any public reports.
